As temperatures increase, Keene’s sales tax revenue is too.
The city recieved an allocation of $43,023 for Feburary, a 4 percent increase over the $41,488 it received in February 2011, according to figures released last week by state comptroller Susan Combs.
“I am very, very, pleased,” city administrator Bill Guinn said. “It’s good to see it increase. We’re ahead of budget and hope it stays that way.”
Combs will send February local sales tax allocations totaling $470.5 million to cities, up 6.7 percent compared to February 2011, a release from her office said.
The February sales tax figures represent monthly sales made in December and collected in January, as well as sales by businesses that report tax on a quarterly or annual basis.
All but two of Keene’s neighboring cities reported sales tax revenue increases for February compared to the same month last year, led by Burleson with revenue of $1,588,375 for a 11 percent increase.
Alvarado expereinced a 7 percent increase, and Joshua was up by 11 percent over February 2011.
Cleburne, however, was down just over 4 percent, with sales tax revenue of $857,716, a drop of $37,981 from February of last year.
Grandview was down 4 percent. The next sales tax revenue report will be released about March 7.
