Eleven Keene residents were among about 128 Southwestern Adventist University students who received diplomas Sunday at commencement exercises in the Leiske-Pultar Gymnasium.
Jeremy Barnes, Kenneth Collins, Dastinee Duncan, Tyler Johnson, Scott Laue, Andrew Laughlin, Katie Miller, Stephen Miller, Melissa Muñoz, Ashten Priest and Patrick Shepherd were members of the university's 119th year.
Collins served as a class officer. Laue and Laughlin were members of the honors program. Stephen Miller earned Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in finance, and Shepherd earned a Master of Education degree with educational leadership emphasis.
Commencement speaker and former Keenite Terry Shaw, CFO and COO for the Adventist Health System, asked the graduates “What Do You Value?”
Shaw, the son of longtime Keene residents George and Sharon Shaw, told the graduates to remember four important points.
“Who you work for is more important than what you do,” he said. “You need to be pushed, not held back.”
He told the class that, as they go into the work place, to surround themselves with people who are naturally curious.
He also suggested they marry a lifetime learner.
“Ninty percent of your success in life is determined by the person you marry,” Shaw told the graduates.
Finally, it's important to learn the ability to ask the next question, he said.

“You've graduated, but you're not done,” he said. “You're smart and well educated, but not finished. You never will be. Never.”
The senior class response will be given by class president Giselle Ortiz.
The three-day graduation ceremonies began Friday.
Jonathan Henderson, senior pastor of the Grand Advent Church in Oakland, Calif., spoke at Senior Consecration Friday. Dan Jackson, president of the North American Division, gave the Baccalaureate address Saturday.
