Like a good hostess, the Keene High School Lady Chargers volleyball team let a guest leave with all the goodies as Dallas Life won the fifth annual Keene Lady Charger Volleyball Tournament Aug. 23-25 at the KHS gymnasium
The Lady Chargers finished with a 2-2 record, tying for second place with Hubbard and Kopperl
Fort Worth Polytechnic finished in fifth place.
“We didn't play very well Thursday,” Keene coach Michelle Smiley-Connelly said. “We lost to some teams (Dallas Life and Hubbard) we should have beat or at least played better against. I saw our team give up a little and was really disappointed about that.”

“For them to turn it around today was great," Smiley-Connelly said. "They talked much more, dug a lot of balls and served very well.”
Smiley-Connelly praised junior Jenna Bulles and sophomore Zayda Gonzales for their all-around play.
Juniors Chelsea Wilson and Pamela Marquez, and sophomores Jasmin Jones and Sabrina Loeak are new to the varsity level, but are improving with each practice and game, the coach said.
“We were very young last year and a lot of people got playing time,” Smiley-Connelly said.
Wilson adds a spiking and blocking component that the Lady Chargers have lacked for

a couple of years. Emily Aaron, Ruthilla Clanton and Christian Enos are the only other juniors on the team. There is no senior.
The Lady Chargers were 3-22 last season, 2 -12 in District 18-2A.
Lisa Lee and Tiffany Lemos serve as assistant coaches.
This season, Keene moves to the seven-team District 10-2A along with Godley, Grandview, Maypearl, Rio Vista, Tolar and Whitney.
The Lady Chargers travel to Crowley Tuesday for games against Nazarene Christian Academy. The JV game begins at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity game begins at 6 p.m.
